Ok–well my shakes are here and I have been taking one a day for the past week. Here’s what I’ve learned in Week 1.

–The shakes are so delicious, I feel as though I am cheating, and that’s no joke. How is it possible to lose weight while drinking a shake that tastes like a real shake? This past week I used one of the recipes out of the Pure Trim booklet that came with my shake order. I used chocolate shake mix, added a banana and a cup of ice with 14 ozs of water. Suffice it to say, it was delicious. On another day I used chocolate almond milk as a base instead of water and it was still delicious. For the last three days, I have been adding my one oz. of liquid vitamin, the daily complete that came with my shakes, directly in with my morning shake so I don’t forget to take it.

–I shedded 3 pounds, never changed my eating habits, and indulged my sweet tooth almost as normal. What I noticed near the end of the week was that my sugar cravings were a little less aggressive. This is a good thing if I am to eventually master my weight.

This week I will try to add a little walking to the mix. I recently heard someone say in the media that for every hour of physical exercise you do, you gain two extra hours in longevity. No, longevity is not my goal, but being healthy enough to enjoy the ride is. I want to be able to live long enough to complete any task the Master gives me. Seeing Jane Fonda on Jay Leno last week has also been a good motivator. I plan to pick up her new DVD for folks over 40 as soon as I can. It’s called: Jane Fonda: Prime Time – Fit & Strong

Last night I was talking to a friend who has not yet gotten to the point of being “sick and tired of being sick and tired” and she asked me how I could motivate her to lose weight. I told her the true motivation will come when you are tired of being overweight and sluggish and energyless from all the extra pounds you are toting around. For the first time in my life I am motivated to lose the pounds and now I believe I have the shake that will help me do it in a healthy way.

Life is good. I’ll let you know how week two goes.

Till then,

I invite you to serve, bless, inspire, pray, love and live on purpose–

Healing with herbs, vitamins and fresh foods is the best natural remedy for keeping your bones healthy for life. As we age, we all are at risk of bone loss. Unfortunately, women are hit the hardest. After menopause women stop producing as much estrogen and that can create bone loss. There are many drugs on the market, but of course they all have side effects that are kind of scary.

There is no reason that anyone needs to get to the point of needing these drugs. A natural remedy is plain and simple, good diet and weight bearing exercise can go a long way to keeping your bones intact. The really sad thing about osteoporosis is that it is preventable.

A healthy diet is easy to accomplish if you follow these guidelines. Your diet should be low protein, low-fat, with lots of dark leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, (especially pumpkin and sesame), soy products and try some seaweed.

Some of the above is probably out of your normal sphere, but it is always good to at least try new things especially if you want to use natural remedies for a long, healthy life. There is probably a health food store near you that carries seaweed and soy products.

Your diet needs CALCIUM at least 1500 mg per day, but the average diet only contains about 500 mg. If you don’t get enough intake of calcium your body takes it from the bones because it NEEDS calcium.

You can take supplements, but if you do, be sure to get ones with MAGNESIUM as that helps transport calcium to the bones. You should get at least 350 mg of Magnesium along with your calcium each day.

To get calcium naturally in your diet use more: Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, dark leafy vegetables such as Broccoli, Spinach, Kale, Peas (these also contains VITAMIN K which you should get 75 mg per day), sardines and salmon. Also, read the labels in the grocery store for “Calcium Fortified” foods such as cereals and juices but these are not natural remedies, but man made.

VITAMIN D – Once again, you can read labels for fortified foods such as milk and breakfast cereals, but again not a natural remedy. You can get all the D you need naturally by doing your exercise outside in the sun without sunscreen for at least 15 minutes a day.

ZINC is another thing you need. Especially in men, lack of zinc can cause brittle bones. Pumpkin seeds are a rich source for zinc, also avocados, buckwheat, wheat germ, crab, oysters and poultry.

Herbs can also help with saving your bones, or help with the discomfort if you are already experiencing bone loss.

RED CLOVER is rich in minerals and trace elements. Red Clover tea is good for your immune system also. Although if you are taking blood thinners, you should consult your doctor as Red Clover is thought to have blood thinning qualities.

NETTLES and OATS are also good for healthy bones. I recommend using them in teas, drink 3 to 4 cups a day.

Foods to avoid are: Red Meat, soda pop,, salt, sugar, antacids w/aluminum, caffeine and of course no smoking.

Caffeine can reduce the amount of calcium you are able to absorb, so if you do drink coffee, add milk as it will help block the effect of the caffeine.

Too much salt will make you eliminate more of your calcium instead of getting it to your bones.

Here is a tip for a high calcium breakfast: Oatmeal, using 1 cup low-fat milk for the cooking water and add 1/2 cup milk to the finished product. This will give you 1/2 the calcium you need in a day.

If you follow these simple rules, your bones will keep you active and healthy for a long life.

I am a “looking forward to retirement” baby boomer. After raising my family, I took a course in a vitalistic approch to medical herbalism and found a whole new way of looking at life. What I’ve learned I would like to share with you. I also make herbal soaps, lotions, salves and other daily use items.

Mediterranean Diet for Health and Longevity… Let’s Shake it Up!

For the last 10 years, since returning home from 5 years of service overseas for my Faith, I have gained an average of 5 pounds a year.

When I left Ghana in 2000, I weighed in at about 157 pounds, and now…well you do the math. But the bottomline is that it is too much for my height and I’ve finally decided to take action.

This holiday season I intend to lose a few pounds–or more–instead of gaining.

Over the weekend I buckled down and did a little research since I have never really been on a diet before, but with what I’ve read over the years, I have become increasingly aware of what it will take to get back to health. Yeah, it’s one thing to get excited about health and quite another to get involved in creating and recalling health to your own body.

And despite the fact that I said I would never count calories, I do not see a way around it now. I have to reduce my caloric intake and add exercise to my routine if I want to see success, if I want to drop the 50 pounds I gained. With a family history of diabetes, HBP, glacoma, heart disease and other chronic ailments, I need to act quickly since I’m now also over 50. I believe my mom had her first heart attack in her mid 40s, so I know there is no time to waste.

Browsing for a Weight Loss Solution

While searching for a healthy weight loss solution, the Mediterranean Diet is one that caught my eye, and I think it will be the most conducive in helping me reach my goal. Take a look at this article on the Mayo Clinic site:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mediterranean-diet/CL00011

It’s only two pages long, and even gives you a visual pyramid to help you get a handle on the basics of the diet/lifestyle the people in the Mediterranean enjoy. If you haven’t visited the site yet, go there now and read it, then come back here. I’ll wait…..

Ok, you’re back. Now doesn’t it seem that such a diet would be a sensible way to get back to health? With what I’ve learned about nutrition over the years, I have decided to give it a try. So I’m in.

Mediterranean Meal Replacement Shakes…No Soy, No Whey, No Aspertame, No Dairy, No Sucrose

To help me along, I’ll be using a high protein, low calorie energy replacement meal shake based on the Mediterranean diet. It’s made with pea and brown rice as a protein source, and I like that as I seemed to have developed a reaction to soy.

Surprisingly it was not hard to find just the right company that offered such a product. In fact, I was already on their customer/distributor list. This was the same company that offered the liquid vitamin that I have grown to love and the herbal tonic that helps me out in the morning and when I’m on the road.

I was pleased to learn that they offer a 10 day challenge on their Mediterranean based 199 calorie meal replacement shake, but it seems a 90 day challenge may be a better one for me given the amount of weight that I want to lose. (Fifty pounds can not be dropped in 10 days, nor should one try:)-

Of course it will be more fun if I have some folks to join me in the challenge. So if you are carrying around excess pounds, you’re invited to take the challenge with me.

When you visit the site, do not sign up for the 10 day challenge, sign up for the “Weight Loss Starter Pak” so we can do this thing together.

I can’t wait to get started.

Click here to join the Challenge! I dare YOU to start the new year as a lighter, leaner, healthier YOU !

Your comments are welcomed.

PS I’ll be sending this post link to all family and friends. Some of ‘em be just as pleasantly plump as me. So remember if you’re reading this page, IT REALLY IS NO ACCIDENT.

Please join me in the challenge. Let’s make it fun. We’ll host a taste test party and then we can all start together.

You N?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is designed to regulate the medications and food products in America. By testing and regulating these consumable goods, the FDA controls which products enter the marketplace and which pharmaceuticals doctors can prescribe for patients. Originally designed to help protect the health of the consumer base, the FDA has become a larger entity in a federal government heavily influenced by large, wealthy corporations who constantly lobby government officials to protect their interests. Since the FDA regulates pharmaceuticals, one of the most profitable products in America, drug companies have spent millions of dollars to push their products into the marketplace. Since the FDA can only regulate drugs and cures that originate from controlled areas (and not nature), they have passed into law a statement that only drugs and surgery can prevent and cure disease. As stated in the book Natural Cures by Kevin Trudeau, by attempting to control the consumption of pharmaceuticals, the FDA has managed to suppress any and all natural remedies and cures.

Although the FDA has a stated focus of protecting the citizens, it manages to disregard any alternative natural remedies and cures due to the management and regulation of natural remedies. Cures and remedies found in nature can neither be regulated nor patented and the FDA can therefore control neither the production value nor the consumption of the products. Because of this, the FDA cannot clear natural cures for use by the population to cure or treat diseases or conditions. Only pharmaceutical companies have the capacity to regulate the production of drugs and create a consistent product. By creating a homogenized product, the FDA can then regulate its use in the marketplace and approve these drugs for use by the general population. In this regard, the FDA manages to regulate the drug distribution, but also fails to recognize the potential of natural remedies and cures. As explained in Kevin Trudeau’s book Natural Cures, the neglect of natural remedies and cures manages to protect only the pharmaceutical industries instead of providing consumers with the best possible cure for their condition.

As one of the largest and most wealthy industries in America, drug companies create conditions in the FDA that protect only the pharmaceutical industries instead of the public. Big drug companies spend millions of dollars creating products to channel into the hands of consumers through the doors of the FDA. Whether these products are prescription grade or not, these companies are interested in profits, not necessarily the health of the consumer. Pharmaceutical companies, after all, are for-profit businesses that profit primarily from the sale of their patented drugs. By influencing the FDA and government officials through lobbyists and drug research, these companies have managed to create an environment that allows only patented drugs to enter the fields of medical science and hospitals for use on patients. As a result, the FDA ends up protecting the profits of the drug companies instead of the health of the consumer. Kevin Trudeau explains in his book Natural Cures that the FDA is only interested in the regulation of pharmaceuticals, leaving the consumer to defend his or her health. He further explains that, since the FDA does not regulate consumer health, each individual is free to choose a cure and remedy that suits the individual’s need.

Albert Milligan, is a writer and editor of internet articles. If you would like to find out more about the FDA, drug companies and natural cures visit [http://www.naturalcures.ws] we are giving away two free books on this topic.

Why do we make poor diet choices while we want to be healthy? What makes losing weight so difficult? These and many other vital questions are addressed in 12 Steps to Raw Foods in an open and sincere dialogue. Based on the latest scientific research, Victoria Boutenko explains the numerous benefits of choosing a diet of fresh rather than cooked foods. This book contains self-tests and questionnaires that help the reader to determine if they have hidden eating patterns that undermine their health. Using examples from life, the author explores the most common reasons for people to make unhealthy eating choices.

Rather than simply praising the benefits of raw foods, this book offers helpful tips and coping techniques to form and maintain new, healthy patterns. Learn how to make a raw food restaurant card that makes dining with co-workers easy and enjoyable. Discover three magic sentences that enable you to refuse your mother-in-lawâ??s apple pie without offending her. Find out how to sustain your chosen diet while traveling. These are only a few of the many scenarios that Boutenko outlines.

Written in a convenient 12-step format, this book guides the reader through the most significant physical, psychological, and spiritual phases of the transition from cooked to raw foods. Embracing the raw food lifestyle is more than simply turning off the stove. Such a radical change in the way we eat affects all aspects of life. Boutenko touches on the human relationship with nature, the value of supporting others, and the importance of living in harmony with people who donâ??t share the same point of view on eating. Already a classic, this enhanced second edition is aimed at anyone interested in improving their health through diet.
